Decorah High Junior Named Finalist in Constitution Project
UPDATE: Jayden Lundtvedt, a junior at Decorah High School, has been named a finalist in the Iowa State Bar Association’s prestigious “Know Your Constitution” Project. This exciting announcement was made just moments ago, highlighting Lundtvedt’s impressive achievement among a competitive field of over 600 students across Iowa.
The finalists will be celebrated at an awards luncheon in Des Moines on January 23, 2024, where the atmosphere will be electric as students gather to honor their dedication to constitutional knowledge. A total of 106 finalists have been selected, with five students set to receive scholarship grants through a random drawing in recognition of their hard work and commitment.
The “Know Your Constitution” Project aims to deepen students’ understanding and appreciation of the U.S. Constitution. Participants, including Lundtvedt, completed a quiz paired with an essay question focusing on the 6th Amendment right to legal counsel. This year’s essay prompt draws from a recent Iowa Supreme Court case and references the landmark U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Gideon v. Wainwright.
As the competition heats up, the finalists’ essays will be showcased on the ISBA website, with an overall winner to be announced at the awards ceremony. This recognition not only celebrates academic achievement but also emphasizes the importance of civic education among young people today.
The program is sponsored by the Iowa State Bar Association Young Lawyers Division, with funding from the Iowa State Bar Foundation. As civic engagement becomes increasingly vital, this initiative empowers students like Lundtvedt to engage critically with the Constitution and its implications in modern society.
Stay tuned for more updates from the awards luncheon, and congratulations to Jayden Lundtvedt for this remarkable accomplishment!
