Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande Win First Grammy at 68th Awards
UPDATE: The 68th annual Grammy Awards have kicked off with excitement at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. In a dazzling start, the first award for Best Pop/Duo Group Performance was awarded to Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande for their stirring rendition of “Defying Gravity,” announced by host Darren Criss. Notably, the winners were not present to accept their honor, but their achievement marks a significant moment in this year’s ceremony.
The Premiere Ceremony began at 3:30 p.m. Eastern, showcasing an impressive 86 Grammys to be handed out before the broadcast. This year’s event contrasts sharply with the previous year’s focus on relief efforts, returning to celebrate the music and artistry that defines the Grammys.
The energy surged as Earth, Wind & Fire opened the show with a vibrant performance of “Shining Star,” alongside notable artists like Israel Houghton and Trombone Shorty. Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. remarked, “That’s how you start a show! That’s a statement. That’s joy. That’s resilience.”
As the pre-telecast ceremony unfolds, all eyes are on the main event, where comedian Trevor Noah will host for the sixth and final year. The televised ceremony kicks off at 8 p.m. Eastern on February 1, 2026, and promises to be a historic gathering of musical legends.
Fans can tune in live on CBS, or stream via platforms like Hulu + Live TV and YouTube TV. Paramount+ subscribers will also have access to the Grammys live, with on-demand viewing available the next day for essential plan users. Additionally, the red carpet event will be streamed by the Associated Press on YouTube and APNews.com, featuring exclusive interviews and fashion highlights.
In terms of nominations, Kendrick Lamar leads the pack with a total of nine nominations, while Lady Gaga, Jack Antonoff, and producer Cirkut follow closely with seven each. Other artists like Sabrina Carpenter and Bad Bunny are also in the spotlight with six nominations each.
The ceremony will feature an array of presenters and performers, including Harry Styles, Justin Bieber, and Bruno Mars. During the “In Memoriam” segment, tributes will be paid by Ms. Lauryn Hill and a group honoring Ozzy Osbourne, ensuring heartfelt moments throughout the night.
As the 68th Grammy Awards continue to unfold, viewers are eager to see how history will be made tonight. Stay tuned for updates as the biggest night in music celebrates its finest talents.
