Chevrolet Reveals U.S. Production Plans for Upcoming Models
UPDATE: Chevrolet has just confirmed the production details for several key models to be made in the United States, including the highly anticipated 2027 Bolt EV and new gas-powered Chevrolet Blazer. This news comes as Chevy aims to boost its presence in the American auto market amidst shifting consumer demands for electric vehicles and SUVs.
The spotlight is on the Chevrolet Silverado, which continues to dominate sales as the second-best-selling truck in the U.S. after the Ford F-Series. All Silverado models, from the 1500 to the heavy-duty 2500/3500, are manufactured in the U.S., with production centers located in Indiana and Michigan. However, some Silverados are also produced in Mexico and Canada, so consumers are advised to check window stickers for specifics.
Chevrolet’s full-size SUVs, the Tahoe and Suburban, are both assembled in Texas, while the Traverse is built in Lansing, Michigan. These vehicles are critically important as they cater to the growing consumer preference for spacious, family-friendly SUVs. The Tahoe starts at $62,095, while the Suburban comes in at $65,095, reflecting their status as premium American-made options.
Meanwhile, the Corvette, recognized as America’s homegrown supercar, is exclusively built in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Enthusiasts can even participate in the assembly of their vehicle’s engine, adding a personal touch to this iconic model.
In a significant move, Chevrolet is set to bring back the Bolt EV for the 2027 model year, now produced in Kansas City. This model aims to be one of the most affordable electric vehicles on the market, starting at $28,995. As the electric vehicle market faces challenges, including a 41.2% drop in EV sales compared to last year, the Bolt’s return could be pivotal for re-energizing interest in affordable EV options.
The company is also investing heavily in its manufacturing processes, with plans to introduce more U.S.-made vehicles by 2027. This includes the addition of new model lines, reflecting a commitment to American jobs and manufacturing.
However, the future of Chevrolet’s electric line-up remains uncertain as GM recently paused production at its Factory Zero in Michigan, indicating potential shifts in strategy as the auto industry adapts to market conditions. Observers are keenly watching how these developments unfold, especially with rising production costs and changing consumer preferences.
