Cecil College freshman Jah Dean has been awarded the esteemed Donald J. Waldon Memorial Scholarship. His recognition occurred during the 49th annual scholarship banquet organized by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. This scholarship is designed to support students pursuing their academic goals, providing vital financial assistance for tuition, fees, and books.

Jah Dean, originally from Smyrna, Delaware, is currently working toward an associate degree in sports management. He also played on the college’s men’s basketball team during the 2025-2026 academic year. The scholarship, sponsored annually by Alpha Phi Alpha, is awarded to up to two full-time students at Cecil College who maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.5 and demonstrate community involvement through volunteer work and extracurricular activities.

In a statement reflecting on the significance of the award, Dean expressed his gratitude. “This scholarship means more to me than financial support—it represents belief,” he said. “It tells me that someone sees my potential and is willing to invest in my future.”

Dean’s motivation extends beyond academics; he feels a strong sense of responsibility as the oldest sibling in his family. “My little brother and sister look up to me, and that motivates me every day,” he shared. “I want my brother to see strength, discipline, and integrity in me. I want my sister to know what it looks like to be respected and valued.”
