Cam Thomas Scores 30 in Return as Nets Beat Timberwolves 123-107
UPDATE: In a sensational comeback, Cam Thomas scored 30 points after missing 20 games due to a left hamstring strain, leading the Brooklyn Nets to a decisive 123-107 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on December 16, 2023. This win marks a crucial moment for the Nets, who have now clinched four wins in their last five games.
The Nets demonstrated a powerful performance at the Target Center, with Michael Porter Jr. contributing 27 points and 10 rebounds. Notably, six players from Brooklyn scored in double figures, showcasing a balanced offensive effort. Currently, the Nets have improved their record to 10-19 and are now 7-3 in December, while holding opponents to an NBA-low 103.1 points per game this month.
Minnesota’s star, Anthony Edwards, led his team with 28 points, but the Timberwolves have now suffered back-to-back losses for the third time this season. They previously lost 142-138 in an overtime thriller against Denver just two days prior.
In a dramatic display during the third quarter, Thomas scored 12 consecutive points for Brooklyn, including two crucial 3-pointers, giving the Nets an 89-82 lead. He played just under 20 minutes and is averaging 22.3 points on 42.2% shooting this season.
The Nets surged further ahead as Day’Ron Sharpe scored six of the final eight points of the quarter, ending it at 98-86. Early in the fourth, a pull-up jumper by Thomas and four points from Danny Wolf pushed the lead to 104-86. A pivotal 3-pointer from Porter solidified the Nets’ dominance with a 120-102 lead with just 1:57 left on the clock.
In a concerning development for Minnesota, an MRI revealed that guard Terrence Shannon Jr. has a left foot strain, with a re-evaluation scheduled in two weeks. This adds to the Timberwolves’ woes as they navigate a challenging stretch in their season.
With the Nets gaining momentum, the next matchup will be crucial. Fans will be watching closely to see if Brooklyn can continue this winning streak and how Minnesota responds to their recent losses. For now, the spotlight is on Cam Thomas as he reintegrates into the lineup, igniting hope for the Nets’ resurgence.
