California Launches $150,000 Down Payment Program for Homebuyers
URGENT UPDATE: California has just announced the reopening of its highly sought-after down payment assistance program, **Dream for All**, starting on **February 24** and running through **March 16**. This initiative, managed by the **California Housing Finance Agency**, allows first-generation homebuyers to apply for loans of up to **$150,000** to help secure their dream homes.
This program will utilize a **lottery system** to select approximately **1,300 eligible applicants**, whether they are purchasing properties individually or as a pair. Selected buyers will be required to repay **15% to 20%** of their home’s appreciated value when they sell, ensuring the sustainability of the program for future participants.
Despite the program’s optimistic launch, **Rajat Jetley**, a mortgage officer based in **Orange County**, reports a noticeable decline in interest this time around. He attributes this dip to the ongoing challenges posed by **high home prices** in California. “It’s possible people have done the math and figured out even with 20% it’s still a sizable payment that they don’t feel comfortable making,” Jetley stated. “It’s still outside their budget.”
The **Dream for All** program, which has been active since its inception in **March 2023**, aims to provide financial relief and opportunities for first-time homebuyers who are struggling to enter the competitive housing market. As the housing landscape continues to evolve, the need for such initiatives remains critical.
To apply for the lottery, potential candidates can visit the official website at calhfa.ca.gov/dream/#nextsteps. For further assistance, interested applicants can call **877.9.CalHFA** or **1-877-922-5432**. Instructions are available in multiple languages, including **Spanish**, **Vietnamese**, **Chinese**, **Korean**, and **Tagalog**.
As the application period approaches, first-time homebuyers in California are urged to act quickly. This could be a golden opportunity for those who qualify to secure a foothold in the challenging real estate market.
Stay tuned for more updates on the **Dream for All** program and its impact on California’s housing market.
