UPDATE: Bismarck’s girls basketball team has just clinched their first MAAA Small School championship since 2009, defeating Arcadia Valley 63-56 in a thrilling match on February 16, 2023, in Ironton. The Lady Indians, led by senior guard Halie Dickey, who scored a game-high 23 points, have ended a five-game losing streak against the Lady Tigers.
The victory not only marks a significant achievement for Bismarck but also showcases their resilience throughout the season, as they faced numerous challenges, including foul troubles that left them with limited reserves. With this win, Bismarck improves to 17-4 overall and 3-0 in conference play, solidifying their position at the top of the standings.
In a fiercely contested game, Bismarck maintained composure as Arcadia Valley pushed hard in the final minutes. Key contributions came from Karlee Dickey, who added 13 points, and Ashley Hawkins, who recorded a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds despite foul difficulties.
Halie Dickey made a crucial three-pointer to give Bismarck a five-point lead late in the game, while Kinsey Hubbs played a pivotal role in securing the victory with strategic plays down the stretch. Arcadia Valley’s standout, Braelyn Turnbough, scored 17 points and fought hard to keep her team in the game, but Bismarck’s defensive efforts ultimately prevailed.
As the game neared its conclusion, Bismarck’s defense proved vital, forcing several turnovers and preventing Arcadia Valley from capitalizing on scoring opportunities. The Lady Indians demonstrated their determination by outscoring their opponents 17-5 in the third quarter, setting the stage for their eventual win.
The Lady Tigers, now 14-10 and 3-1 in the conference, will look to regroup as they prepare for their upcoming district tournament. Meanwhile, Bismarck is set to face either Ellington or East Carter in the Class 2, District 3 tournament on Wednesday, February 22.
This championship win not only marks a historic moment for Bismarck’s basketball program but also reflects the hard work and dedication of first-year head coach Logan Blunt and a resilient team.
