23-Year-Old Arrested in Thornton Hit-and-Run Death of Teen
BREAKING: A 23-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a tragic hit-and-run incident that killed a 14-year-old boy riding a bicycle in Thornton, Colorado. The suspect, identified as Jeremy Nobles, was taken into custody shortly after the fatal crash, which occurred just before 9:45 PM on September 30, 2023.
Authorities report that the victim was riding a small motorized bike north on Huron Street when he was struck from behind near the intersection with West Thornton Parkway. Witnesses say the suspect vehicle, a 2013 BMW 328i, sped away from the scene without stopping. Paramedics rushed the injured teenager to a local hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries.
Thornton Police confirmed that Nobles could face serious charges, including careless driving causing serious bodily injury or death and failure to remain at the scene of a crash involving death. The Adams County Coroner’s Office is expected to release the identity of the young victim later.
In a swift investigative response, Thornton Police utilized a Flock Safety license plate reader to track the suspect vehicle, which led to a critical lead. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation issued a Medina Alert based on the data gathered from the Flock camera. After being contacted by investigators, Nobles informed officers that his vehicle was located in Northglenn, where he was subsequently arrested and taken to the Adams County Jail.
Thornton Police Chief Jim Baird expressed condolences to the victim’s family, stating, “Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones affected by this tragic crash.”
This incident has raised awareness about the dangers of reckless driving and hit-and-run cases within the community. Authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward as the investigation continues.
The community is left grieving, and many are calling for stricter penalties for drivers who flee the scene of accidents. As developments unfold, residents are encouraged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious behavior related to traffic incidents.
