Vice President JD Vance Participates in Navy SEAL Training in Coronado
Vice President JD Vance participated in a Navy SEAL training exercise at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado on December 22, 2025. Following the rigorous session, he expressed that the experience left him feeling “like I got hit by a freight train.” The Vice President, a former Marine, engaged in activities such as running, rope-climbing, and log-carrying alongside the elite special forces.
Vance’s participation in the training session included a 90-minute physical training segment. He noted the “highest standards anywhere in the world” during his experience but also acknowledged that the SEALs “took it easy on me.” His remarks highlight both the demanding nature of the training and the camaraderie established between military personnel.
Photos released by the Vice President’s office depicted Vance actively engaging in various exercises on Silver Strand Beach, including running, climbing netting, and carrying a log. The images captured not only his physical activities but also moments where he interacted with Navy personnel, emphasizing the connection between civilian leadership and military service.
Vance, who served four years in the Marine Corps and deployed to Iraq as a military journalist, rose to the rank of corporal. His background in the military underscores his appreciation for the challenges faced by active-duty service members.
Despite the light-hearted tone of the training event, Vance’s participation drew criticism from some commentators. Critics on the left characterized the exercise as a mere publicity stunt, suggesting it diverted attention from pressing issues confronting the Trump administration.
This event marks another instance of political figures engaging with military training to foster public support for defense initiatives. The juxtaposition of Vance’s military background with his current role as Vice President highlights the ongoing relationship between military service and governance in the United States. As such activities continue, they spark discussions about the responsibilities of leaders in addressing both military and domestic challenges.
