The Minnesota Timberwolves secured a thrilling 124-121 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on March 12, 2024. In a closely contested game, Anthony Edwards led the Timberwolves with 34 points, while Jaden McDaniels contributed 29 points along with a career-high five blocked shots and three steals.

The Timberwolves’ win marked their fourth victory in the last five games, improving their record against the Trail Blazers to a perfect 3-0 this season. The two teams will face off again in Minneapolis on March 20, 2024.

Minnesota’s offense was bolstered by Donte DiVincenzo, who added 19 points, with each of these three players successfully sinking five three-pointers. The Timberwolves shot an impressive 48.6% from beyond the arc, making 17 of their 35 attempts. Rudy Gobert also had a notable performance, grabbing 19 rebounds to complement his 10 points.

The Trail Blazers, despite the loss, showcased strong individual performances. All-Star Deni Avdija missed the game due to a back injury, which was his 11th absence in the last 18 games. Jrue Holiday led Portland with 22 points, while Jerami Grant added 21 points and Scoot Henderson scored 19 points. Kris Murray and Donovan Clingan contributed 16 and 11 points, respectively, with Clingan also collecting 16 rebounds.

The game was tightly contested, with the Timberwolves holding a narrow lead throughout. Portland managed to cut the deficit to four points after Toumani Camara scored with 1:37 left on the clock. However, Edwards quickly responded with a three-pointer, followed by a dunk from McDaniels that extended Minnesota’s lead to 120-111 with just over a minute remaining.

Minnesota maintained their composure down the stretch, successfully fending off a late surge from the Trail Blazers. They shot 53.4% from the field, with McDaniels leading the charge by making 12 of 16 shots and missing only one of his six three-point attempts. In contrast, Portland managed a shooting percentage of 47.2%, including 14 of 35 from long range, or 40%.

Earlier in the day, the Trail Blazers announced that Shaedon Sharpe would miss his seventh game due to a left calf injury, along with a new left fibula injury that requires re-evaluation in four to six weeks. The absence of key players, including Avdija and Sharpe, has posed challenges for Portland as they aim to regain momentum in the season.

This latest matchup showcased the Timberwolves’ resilience and ability to perform under pressure, setting the stage for an exciting rematch later this month.
