Portland Claims No. 1 Spot in Final Varsity Maine Boys Basketball Poll
The final Varsity Maine boys basketball poll for the 2025-26 season has crowned Portland as the new No. 1 team, marking a significant moment in high school sports. This season saw a dynamic leaderboard, with multiple teams including Camden Hills, Sanford, South Portland, and Windham vying for the top position, but it is Portland that finishes the season atop the rankings.
Portland’s rise to prominence culminated in a decisive victory over Camden Hills in the Class A championship game, where they triumphed with a score of 76-60. This victory followed their impressive performances in the Class A South tournament, where they defeated both Sanford and South Portland. Despite not holding the top ranking for much of the season, Portland’s final push secured their place as the leading team.
