Police Seek Public Assistance in Valley City Hit-and-Run
The North Dakota Highway Patrol has launched an appeal for public assistance in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred near Valley City over the weekend. On December 20, 2023, multiple 911 calls were made to dispatch regarding a pedestrian reportedly walking along Interstate 94.
Responding officers made contact with the pedestrian, a male who declined assistance at that time. Concerned citizens continued to report sightings throughout the evening, with the last call logged at 22:55. Tragically, the situation escalated when a passerby discovered the pedestrian’s body in a ditch near mile marker 282 in the eastbound lanes, approximately 8 miles west of Valley City, on Sunday afternoon.
Investigation Underway
The North Dakota Highway Patrol, in collaboration with the Barnes County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the scene. Upon arrival, they found evidence consistent with a hit-and-run, including fragments of a vehicle. The deceased pedestrian was located in the same vicinity.
Authorities have not yet identified the vehicle involved in the incident. They are particularly interested in locating a large portion of the vehicle’s bug deflector that was recovered from the scene. Investigators believe the vehicle may also have sustained damage to the front and/or passenger side.
