Olmsted Falls Aims for Fourth Straight Final Four in Girls Basketball
The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) has released the playoff brackets for the girls basketball tournaments in Divisions I and II. As they strive for a fourth consecutive appearance at the Final Four, the Olmsted Falls Bulldogs will compete in Division II, Northeast 7 district, with their journey starting at Berea-Midpark.
The Bulldogs, seeded fourth, will host the 33rd-seeded Valley Forge in the first round on February 25. Should Olmsted Falls advance, they will face the winner of the matchup between the 16th-seeded John Marshall and the 15th-seeded Garfield Heights. This season, the Bulldogs have demonstrated their prowess, having won five straight district titles and three consecutive regional championships.
In previous years, Olmsted Falls claimed regional titles at Sandusky and last year at Medina, defeating Massillon Washington and Uniontown Green along the way. The Bulldogs concluded the regular season with a strong record of 18-4 and a remarkable 13-1 in the Southwestern Conference, securing their status as eight-time conference champions. Their recent success includes a narrow 42-40 victory against Springboro on February 14, extending their winning streak to nine games.
Local Teams in the Playoffs
Olmsted Falls is not the only team from the area making strides in the playoffs. Other competitors in Division II include the Avon Eagles, who will compete in the Northeast 4 District, Amherst in the Northeast 5, and North Ridgeville in the Northeast 8. The Eagles, seeded 19th, will travel to face the 11th-seeded Lakewood in their first-round game. Meanwhile, the 29th-seeded Amherst will take on second-seed Brecksville-Broadview Heights on the road, and the 10th-seeded North Ridgeville will host the 13th-seeded Solon.
In Division I, the only local representative is the Lorain Titans, who have been assigned the 16th seed. They will face the second-seeded Mentor, a fellow Greater Cleveland Conference team, in what promises to be a competitive playoff matchup. Additionally, the 17th-seeded Elyria will visit Massillon Jackson, which secured the third seed in the tournament.
This year’s playoffs are set to showcase the determination and skill of these young athletes as they pursue their championship dreams. Each game will bring excitement and a chance for these teams to make their mark on the tournament. As the brackets unfold, fans eagerly anticipate the action starting on February 25, with aspirations for their teams to advance through the rounds and into the Final Four.
