Knock Out Brothers Retain IWGP Tag Titles, Address Contract Speculation
The Knock Out Brothers, comprising OSKAR and Yuto-Ice, successfully defended their IWGP Tag Team Championships during the main event of New Year Dash 2026. They retained their titles against the formidable duo of Zack Sabre Jr. and Ryohei Oiwa, solidifying their status as one of the premier tag teams in professional wrestling.
In the lead-up to the event, speculation arose regarding potential interest from WWE in signing the Knock Out Brothers. Following their victory, Yuto-Ice addressed these rumors during a backstage interview, affirming their commitment to New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW). “Whatever rumors you might hear, we are never going anywhere,” he stated, putting any concerns to rest among their fans.
With their reign as champions beginning in September 2025, the Knock Out Brothers have made a significant impact in the wrestling scene. They were recognized as the Best Tag Team in the Tokyo Sports awards, highlighting their dominance throughout the year. Their latest title defense at New Year Dash saw them pin Oiwa, further cementing their legacy.
As the event concluded, Shota Umino and Yuya Uemura, along with Tomohiro Ishii and Taichi, emerged to challenge the champions. In response, OSKAR and Yuto-Ice proposed that Umino and Uemura face Ishii and Taichi in a match to determine who would earn the next shot at their titles. This challenge reflects the competitive spirit of NJPW and sets the stage for future confrontations within the tag team division.
The Knock Out Brothers have previously claimed victories over both Umino and Uemura, as well as Ishii and Taichi, showcasing their prowess in the ring. Their ongoing reign continues to draw attention, not just for their skills but also for their unwavering loyalty to NJPW amid increasing interest from larger promotions.
As the wrestling landscape evolves, the Knock Out Brothers remain a key part of NJPW’s narrative, promising fans an exciting journey ahead.
