Kauai High School Claims First Boys Basketball Win of Season

Kauai High School’s boys basketball team secured its first victory of the season with a commanding **57-23** win against the Island School Voyagers on March 4, 2024. The match took place at the newly built Kauai High School gymnasium as part of the Kauai Interscholastic Federation games.

The game, originally scheduled for March 2, was rescheduled, allowing fans in attendance, particularly those in the section known as The Roost, to witness a dominant performance by the Red Raiders. From the outset, Kauai established a significant lead, finishing the first quarter with a staggering **19-2** advantage.

Despite the early setback, the Voyagers responded in the second quarter, narrowing the gap to **25-15** by halftime. They managed to convert three successful three-pointers, showcasing their determination to close the scoring deficit. Notable contributions came from **Griffin Bowers**, who led the Voyagers with nine points, while **Matthew Dobashi** and **Piko Vaughn** added six and five points, respectively.

The second half saw a resurgence from Kauai High, which outscored the Voyagers **32-8**, ultimately sealing the game at **57-23**. **Kaisen Yanos** topped the scoring for the Red Raiders with **15 points**, including three three-pointers, while **Laurance Ganir** contributed **13 points**, excelling at the free-throw line with a six-for-seven record.

Kauai High School’s victory followed a preliminary exhibition match where they also triumphed over Island School, winning **44-24**. The Red Raiders demonstrated a strong performance across both games, with several players contributing effectively off the bench.

Looking ahead, Kauai will face off against Waimea High School on March 9, 2024. The Junior Varsity game is set to begin at **17:30** local time, followed by the varsity matchup approximately **20 minutes** after the conclusion of the JV game. Meanwhile, Island School will host Kapaa High School, the current season leader, at the Wilcox Gymnasium.
