The University of Minnesota’s football program has bolstered its roster by securing the transfer of brothers Aydan and Elisha West from Michigan State University. The brothers announced their decision to join the Gophers via X on Tuesday, marking a significant addition to the team’s defensive lineup.

Both Aydan and Elisha West, each standing approximately 5-foot-11 and weighing around 190 pounds, will help fill the void left by cornerbacks Za’Quan Bryan and Jaylen Bowden. Bryan, a sophomore starter, and Bowden, who had limited playtime after transferring from North Carolina Central, departed the Gophers following their narrow victory against New Mexico in the Rate Bowl on December 26, 2025.

Aydan West, a true freshman last season, made a noteworthy impact at Michigan State. He recorded 19 tackles and one pass breakup across 12 games, earning a Pro Football Focus grade of 61.8 over 380 defensive snaps. His experience and performance will be valuable as the Gophers look to strengthen their secondary.

In contrast, Elisha West’s contributions at Michigan State were more limited. As a redshirt freshman, he participated in only two games and did not register any statistics. Prior to joining MSU, Elisha spent his freshman year at Merrimack College in 2024.

The West brothers hail from Gaithersburg, Maryland, and their commitment to Minnesota represents the eighth and ninth overall additions to the Gophers from the transfer portal since it opened on Friday. This influx of talent reflects the coaching staff’s proactive approach in addressing team needs as they prepare for the upcoming season.

In recent weeks, the Gophers have also made headlines by securing several other transfers, including a defensive back from Division II and a receiver from Auburn. With each new addition, Minnesota aims to build a competitive roster capable of making significant strides in the next season.
