Bengals Feast on Turducken and Crabs After Dominating Ravens
The Cincinnati Bengals celebrated a remarkable 32-14 victory over the Baltimore Ravens on November 23, 2023, with a festive postgame feast featuring a twist on the traditional turducken. The gathering took place inside M&T Bank Stadium, where players embraced the local culinary culture by enjoying steamed crabs seasoned with Old Bay.
After the game, Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow and several teammates joined NBC sideline reporter Melissa Stark for an impromptu culinary experience. Burrow, fresh off his return from injury, humorously inspected a Maryland crab before seeking guidance from Stark, who explained the proper way to enjoy the regional delicacy. “That’s a Maryland crab,” she noted. “You do not bite it. You have to pull the legs off.”
While the crabs took center stage, a plate of Cincinnati chili, a Mediterranean-spiced meat sauce served over spaghetti or hot dogs, was also available, though it attracted less attention from the players. Stark later shared that long snapper William Wagner attempted to eat a crab but commented that it was “a little cold,” likely due to the chilly weather conditions, with temperatures hovering in the low-to-mid 30s Fahrenheit during the game.
Celebrating With a Culinary Tribute
The postgame festivities paid homage to legendary coach and broadcaster John Madden, known for popularizing the turducken. As the players enjoyed their meal, NBC cameras captured the preparation of the crabs and turkey by a chef from the Ravens’ team. Defensive end Joseph Ossai epitomized the festive spirit, enthusiastically munching on a turkey leg during his interview with Stark. “Dang, I’m spitting, I’m sorry,” Ossai exclaimed, clearly relishing the moment after a standout performance that included two sacks and four quarterback hits.
The Bengals’ victory not only marked a significant comeback following a challenging 3-8 start to the season but also allowed the team to bond over regional food traditions. The Bengals’ social media account joined in the celebration, posting a whimsical photo of a wishbone being pulled apart by a raven and a tiger’s tail, captioned, “The bird was perfectly cooked.”
Looking Ahead to Future Matchups
The rivalry between the Bengals and Ravens is far from over, as the teams are set to meet again on December 14, 2023, when Baltimore travels to Cincinnati. The aftermath of this Thanksgiving matchup showcases the camaraderie and unique experiences that sports can foster, both on and off the field.
As fans and players reflect on the game, this festive postgame celebration will undoubtedly be remembered as a highlight of the Bengals’ season. The blend of sports and local traditions not only enhances the excitement of the game but also underscores the cultural significance of food in bringing people together.
