LeRoy Forehand, a distinguished World War II veteran and long-time resident of Torrance, California, passed away peacefully from natural causes on February 7, 2026, at the age of 102. His contributions to both his country and community are fondly remembered by those who knew him.

Born in Grinnell, Iowa, LeRoy relocated to southern California in 1941. He began his career as an aircraft ordnance technician at Lockheed Aircraft, where he worked on the P-38 Lightning fighters. In August 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific theater during World War II. Notably, he held the position of Beach Master during the critical operation on Saipan in 1945.

After the war, LeRoy returned to southern California, where he continued his career at TRW and later at CALTRANS, ultimately retiring after decades of service. His commitment to community service was evident through his active involvement with the Gardena Masonic Lodge, where he attained the office of Master in 1960.

LeRoy’s dedication to veterans’ affairs was highlighted by his long-standing participation in the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). He served on the Honor Guard at Post 1622 in Lomita for over 20 years. His support for naval heritage was also significant, as he was a known advocate for the USS Iowa and participated regularly in the Torrance Armed Forces Day Parade.

LeRoy is survived by his daughter, Ruth Ann Forehand, who carries on his legacy. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during a viewing at Halverson, Stone and Myers Mortuary, located at 1223 Cravens Ave., Torrance, on February 26 from 16:00 to 19:00. A memorial service is scheduled to take place at the mortuary chapel on February 28 at 10:00.

Following the memorial service, LeRoy will be interred at Green Hills Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at the Lomita VFW Post 1622, located at 1865 Lomita Blvd, after the internment, providing an opportunity for all who knew him to gather and honor his memory.
