Timothy Patrick Scully, a respected educator and principal, passed away on December 13, 2023, at the age of 78. He was surrounded by family during his final moments. Scully spent 35 years in education, making a significant impact as the Principal at North Torrance High School. His leadership earned him recognition as the California Principal of the Year for the 2001-2002 school year.

Throughout his career, Scully was dedicated to fostering a positive learning environment. He taught English and Thanatology and served as the freshman football coach at West Torrance High School. His commitment to education extended beyond the classroom. He introduced initiatives such as parents’ nights, college recruiting sessions, and community leader meetings with students. Additionally, he established a human relations commission and organized diversity conventions aimed at promoting understanding among students.

In 2003, Scully earned a Doctor of Education from the University of Southern California, where he received an award for his dissertation on education finance. His academic achievements reflect his dedication to improving educational practices and outcomes.

A passionate fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Scully celebrated the team’s back-to-back championships with enthusiasm. His love for sports was matched by his determination to give back to the community. After being diagnosed with multiple myeloma, Scully became an active fundraiser for City of Hope, contributing to cancer research and patient care.

Scully is survived by his wife, Margaret; sons Sean and Jason; and grandchildren Timothy and Rose. His family remembers him not only as a devoted educator but also as a loving husband and grandfather.

A service in his honor will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery and Mortuary in Culver City on December 29, 2023, at 13:00. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to City of Hope to support ongoing cancer research and treatment. Scully’s legacy as an educator and community leader will continue to inspire those he touched throughout his life.
