Remembering John Davidson: A Life of Family and Adventure

John Wayne Davidson, a beloved figure from San Pedro, passed away, leaving behind a rich legacy filled with family, friendship, and a passion for adventure. Born to Cleo and John Davidson, he grew up in San Pedro, where he attended White Point, Dana, and San Pedro High School. He was the eldest of three brothers and shared a close bond with his family, often enjoying camping and fishing trips.

John’s early years were shaped by his love for swimming, his involvement in the local car club with his cherished Volkswagen Bug, and the friendships he built during his time at school. He met Laureen Demaria while studying, and the two graduated together in the Class of 1969. Following in his father’s footsteps, John began working at the San Pedro News-Pilot, where he honed his skills and built a foundation for his professional life.

On October 2, 1971, John and Laureen married, and they welcomed their daughter, Kimmy, in 1973. The family enjoyed many weekends at “the river,” where John felt most at home. His love for water sports was evident in his enjoyment of water skiing, jet skiing, parasailing, and, most importantly, fishing.

In 1977, John joined his father-in-law, Anthony Demaria, Sr., at Demaria Electric, becoming one of the company’s first employees. His dedication and hard work earned him respect in the industry. By 1984, John and his family had moved to Bullhead City, Arizona, marking a significant transition in their lives. Here, John not only became a firefighter but also rose to the rank of Battalion Chief, further showcasing his commitment to serving the community.

In Bullhead City, John launched his own business, Davidson Electric, and built a home that reflected his love for the outdoors. He frequently returned to San Pedro to assist at Demaria Electric, balancing his work with his passion for fishing. John and Laureen were known for hosting family gatherings, creating cherished memories, especially during the annual “Bullhead Easter Bunny Hop” on the lake, which brought joy to all who attended.

John’s family was everything to him. He held a deep affection for Laureen, Kimmy, her husband David Hansen, and his grandchildren, Dalton and Renn. His love extended to all who knew him, as he was described as a great husband, father, son, brother, and friend.

As friends and family remember John, they celebrate a life filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable moments. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. In tribute, one can only hope that he catches that “Big Bass in the sky.”
