Indiana and Oregon Clash in Peach Bowl After Stellar Ground Games

The top-ranked Indiana Hoosiers will face off against the fifth-ranked Oregon Ducks in the Peach Bowl on January 19, 2024, after showcasing exceptional ground games throughout the season. After a dominant performance against Alabama, where they rushed for 215 yards in a 38-3 victory, Hemby and Black are focused on replicating that success. “We just try to outphysical our opponents,” Hemby stated. “We really want to make it a four-quarter fight to where we kind of impose our will.” This strategy has propelled the Hoosiers, who average 220.7 yards per game on the ground, ranking them 10th nationally and first among teams still in contention for the national championship.

While Indiana’s high-scoring offense, averaging 41.6 points per game, often steals the spotlight, the running game has been equally crucial. With six games exceeding 300 rushing yards, the Hoosiers have established themselves as a formidable force on the ground. They also boast the nation’s best third-down conversion rate at 56.5%, demonstrating efficiency in critical moments.

Black attributes their success to a strong team ethos. “Being around a great group of guys, you just have the want to be better in your life and also on the football field,” he explained. Despite their contributions, both Hemby and Black have remained relatively under the radar. Hemby, after four seasons at Maryland, has seen a resurgence at Indiana, surpassing the 1,000-yard mark for the first time this season. Black has also achieved personal bests, rushing for 898 yards and eight touchdowns.

The upcoming match against Oregon poses a significant challenge for Indiana. In their first encounter earlier this season, the Hoosiers managed only 111 yards on the ground against the Ducks.
