Diane Snider Wins Mayfield Heights Mayoral Race with 77.7% Vote

Diane Marzano Snider has been elected as the next mayor of Mayfield Heights, Ohio, securing an impressive 77.7 percent of the votes in the election held on November 4, 2023. Her victory positions her as the successor to Anthony DiCicco, who was unable to seek re-election due to the city’s three-term limit.

In a statement following her election win, Snider expressed her gratitude to the residents of Mayfield Heights. “Thank you, Mayfield Heights. I am truly honored and humbled by your support,” she said. She emphasized her commitment to ensuring that the community remains a place everyone is proud to call home.

As mayor, Snider plans to familiarize herself with all city departments and their directors, aiming to foster collaboration and drive economic growth. “I’m especially excited to collaborate with our economic development team to attract new businesses and help our existing ones continue to thrive,” she noted.

Transitioning Leadership and Future Plans

Snider, who previously served as the City Council president, received a total of 2,463 votes, decisively defeating former council member Gayle Teresi, who garnered 707 votes. Snider views her win as a mandate from the community, stating, “As we move forward, I remain committed to keeping Mayfield Heights a community we are all proud to call home.”

Her previous experience on the City Council, spanning from 2002 to 2014, will inform her approach as she steps into her new role. After a hiatus from council, she returned in 2021 and had two years remaining on her current term, which the council will need to fill. “Together, we will ensure a smooth transition and continue building on the strengths of our city,” Snider added.

City Council Election Results

In addition to the mayoral race, the city held elections for four City Council positions. The top vote-getter was Jessica Finney Brown, who received 1,809 votes. Finney Brown is the daughter of the late former councilwoman Donna Finney, who passed away in September 2021.

Other candidates included first-time candidates Joseph Brunello, who received 1,582 votes, and Michael Buffa, who garnered 1,475 votes. Current Councilman Matthew Metyk received 1,141 votes. Metyk was appointed to the council in 2024 following the resignation of former councilman Robert DeJohn.

As Snider prepares to take office in January, she looks forward to working closely with the current mayor to ensure a seamless transition. “Once again, thank you for your trust and confidence. I am ready to get to work for you and for the future of Mayfield Heights,” she concluded.
