A baby boy born just after midnight on January 1, 2026, marked the New Year at UCHealth Greeley Hospital in Colorado. Graciela Martinez and Alejandro Regalado welcomed their son, who shares his father’s name and made his grand entrance into the world at precisely 1:01 a.m.

Martinez, who was at her mother’s home celebrating her sister’s birthday on New Year’s Eve, realized it was time to go to the hospital around 22:30. “I called my husband and I’m like, get ready,” she recounted about the unexpected timing of the birth.

The newborn weighed a healthy 6 pounds, 8 ounces and measured 19.5 inches long. Reflecting on the experience, Martinez noted, “Obviously, it wasn’t planned or anything but that’s pretty cool.” She expressed gratitude for the well-being of both herself and her baby, stating, “Thank God, we’re actually doing really well.”

If everything proceeds as planned, Martinez aims to return home with her newborn on the morning of January 6. In celebration of the first birth of the year, the family will receive a gift basket filled with baby clothing, blankets, and other essentials from the hospital.

In total, UCHealth Greeley Hospital delivered 730 babies in 2025, a testament to the facility’s role in the community. As of the publication deadline, information regarding the first baby born at Banner North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley in 2026 was not available.
