Michael Edward Schliebe, a cherished husband, brother, and friend, passed away at the age of 70 on December 7, 2025, at his home in Puyallup, Washington. After a brief battle with esophageal cancer, he was surrounded by loved ones, including his wife, Cyndy Schliebe, at the time of his death.

A Lifelong Commitment to Community and Faith

Born on January 29, 1955, in Long Beach, California, Michael was the son of Milton Edward and Shirley Ann Schliebe (née Davis). He grew up in a family that valued faith, attending First Lutheran Church, where he passionately engaged in various ministries. Michael’s devotion was evident in his beautiful singing voice, which he showcased as a member of the church choir. He also contributed as a handbell leader, served on church leadership boards, and held the position of treasurer for many years.

In 1971, Michael met Cyndy Wick at First Lutheran Church. Their friendship blossomed through young adult church activities, and they married in 1979. For nearly four decades, they called Long Beach home, building a life rich with faith and community involvement.

Career and Hobbies

In 1986, Michael transitioned from a successful career at McKesson Office Supplies to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, where he served at the Lomita Sheriff’s Station. He held various roles but found his niche as a dispatcher and watch deputy, a position he maintained until retirement in 2016.

After retiring, Michael and Cyndy relocated to the Pacific Northwest, where he pursued his hobbies with fervor. An avid golfer, he also discovered a passion for curling, participating in a “learn to curl” class that ignited his enthusiasm for the sport. Many Friday nights found him curling in Western Washington, where he formed lasting friendships.

Michael was also an enthusiastic SCUBA diver and snow skier. He gained recognition through the production of “Ski Talk” videos for the Lutheran Men’s Beer Drinking League. Together with Cyndy, he explored North America and embarked on numerous ocean cruises, including a memorable National Geographic cruise to Antarctica. During this trip, he and Cyndy took part in the daring “Polar Plunge,” diving into the frigid waters.

Michael is survived by his wife, Cyndy; his brother, Steve Schliebe; his sister, Kim Biondo (married to Vito Biondo); and several nieces and nephews. He will be fondly remembered for his infectious laughter and warm spirit.

A memorial service will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church, located at 4644 Clark Ave., Long Beach, CA, on January 10, 2026, at 13:00. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Samaritans Purse (World Medical Missions or International Crisis Response), Tunnel to Towers, or the Wounded Warriors Project.

Michael Schliebe’s legacy of faith and service leaves a lasting impact on those who knew him. He is now remembered not only as a believer but as a knower in the presence of God.
