Community Mourns the Loss of Jerrold Cardoza, 1947-2025
Jerrold Lawrence Cardoza, a dedicated public servant and beloved family man, passed away on December 2, 2025, after a battle with colon cancer. He was 78 years old. Cardoza is survived by his wife, Dixie Cardoza, their three children—Cambria Whalen (married to Chris), Andrea Buttery (married to Darrin), and Amy Holstein (married to Mike)—as well as nine grandchildren and his brother, Jim Cardoza (married to Sandi).
Born in Merced, California, in 1947, Cardoza pursued higher education at community college before attending Fresno State College. He began his career as a probation officer in Madera and Sonoma counties before dedicating over 35 years to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation as a State Parole Agent. Cardoza’s commitment to public service extended beyond his professional roles; he was deeply involved in various community organizations.
Legacy of Service and Community Engagement
Cardoza served on the board of directors for the Millview County Water Department for more than 25 years and was a founding member of the Ukiah Valley Water Agency. His contributions to public safety were underscored by his decade-long service on the board of the Mendocino Public Safety Foundation. Additionally, he was a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for foster children, demonstrating his commitment to helping vulnerable populations.
Throughout his life, Cardoza championed the cause of recovery from addiction. He dedicated numerous years to the board of the Ford Street Project, an organization focused on aiding individuals struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. Cardoza’s belief in the potential for change and recovery left a lasting impact on the community.
Friends and family have suggested that those wishing to honor Cardoza’s memory consider donating to the Ukiah Food Bank through the Ford Street Project.
