Buccaneers Receiver Emeka Egbuka Returns to Practice Ahead of Lions Game
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers received a boost as rookie receiver Emeka Egbuka returned to practice on Saturday after suffering a hamstring injury during last Sunday’s victory over the San Francisco 49ers. His participation raises hopes that he could play in the upcoming game against the Detroit Lions on March 15, 2024.
Head coach Todd Bowles indicated that Egbuka was limited in practice and will be a game-time decision. “It’s possible,” Bowles stated. “I mean, it’s not definite. Again, this is going to go all the way up until game time. He wants to play, but it all depends on how he feels and how he looks.”
Egbuka, who recently turned 23, has made a significant impact in his rookie season. He leads the team with 27 receptions for 469 yards and five touchdowns, showcasing his ability to contribute effectively on the field.
The Buccaneers are also anticipating the return of fellow receiver Mike Evans, who practiced for the second consecutive day. Evans has been sidelined for three games due to a hamstring strain but is eager to return. Additionally, linebacker Lavonte David, who has been dealing with knee and rib injuries, was back in practice on Saturday.
The team is expecting other players to return as well, including cornerbacks Zyon McCollum and Benjamin Morrison, both of whom have been recovering from injuries. Bowles confirmed that McCollum will not face any limitations due to his thumb injury, stating, “He can do everything.”
On the other hand, the Buccaneers will be missing several key players for the upcoming game. Running backs Bucky Irving and Josh Williams, receiver Chris Godwin, and guard Luke Haggard will all be unavailable due to various injuries.
Additionally, guard Mike Jordan, who missed time due to a knee injury, showed progress in practice and could also be available for Monday’s matchup. “He’s making some progress,” Bowles noted, suggesting that Jordan’s return would strengthen the offensive lineup.
As the Buccaneers prepare for the game against the Lions, the health of their roster will be crucial. With key players potentially returning, the team looks to build on their recent successes and secure another win.
