Stars Shine at Hollywood Premiere of ‘Zootopia 2’
The world premiere of Disney’s highly anticipated sequel, Zootopia 2, took place on November 26, 2023, at the iconic El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles. In an event that drew significant attention, the streets surrounding the venue were closed off to accommodate the influx of fans and industry insiders, all eager to celebrate the return of beloved characters and the introduction of new ones.
Returning to their roles are Jason Bateman and Ginnifer Goodwin, reprising their roles as rookie cops Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps. This time, they face a new mystery that unfolds in their vibrant animal metropolis. Goodwin expressed her excitement, stating, “I mean, I’m a Disney nut, first of all. I used to go into the Disney offices and beg them to cast me in anything,” adding that playing Judy was a special highlight of her career.
The sequel features several new characters, including Gary De’Snake, voiced by Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan. Quan described his character as a “poisonous viper” who surprises everyone with his friendly demeanor. Another new character, an energetic beaver named Nibbles Maplestick, is voiced by comedian Fortune Feimster. Feimster remarked, “I honestly can’t believe it… this is at the top, for sure,” emphasizing the significance of her role.
In addition to the returning cast, Colombian pop star Shakira is back, bringing along her two young sons who lend their voices to Judy Hopps’ little brothers. Shakira shared that they recorded their lines together, adding a personal touch to the experience. Actress Bonnie Hunt, who voices Bonnie Hopps, expressed her joy in sharing this film with her large family. “I have, I don’t know, 19 nieces and nephews now, so I get to be a part of their childhood in a way that will last, I hope, their lifetime,” she said.
The filmmakers also conveyed their enthusiasm for the project. Co-director Byron Howard highlighted the effort put into ensuring the film captures the essence of Disney magic. “We want to be entertained. We want to laugh, we want to cry,” he said. His co-director, Jared Bush, added that the sequel explores many areas of Zootopia that were not featured in the original film.
Producer Yvett Merino emphasized the film’s underlying message about diversity and understanding. “We are all a little different, and we all have differences, and if we really just take the time to understand the differences, we would all be stronger together,” she noted.
As excitement builds for its release, Zootopia 2 promises to deliver a blend of adventure, humor, and heartwarming moments that fans have come to expect from the franchise. The film is set to hit theaters on November 26, 2023, promising a delightful experience for audiences of all ages.
