Oscar-Winning Spider-Man Film Returns to Theaters in 2026
Sony Pictures has announced that the acclaimed animated film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, will be rereleased in theaters on February 6, 2026. This comes as anticipation builds for the franchise’s upcoming sequel, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is set to debut on July 31, 2026.
Originally released in 2018, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was both a critical and commercial success, grossing approximately $394 million worldwide. The film won the Best Animated Feature award at the 2019 Academy Awards, solidifying its place in cinematic history. It has maintained a remarkable 97% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 399 reviews, indicating its lasting popularity.
The film follows the story of Brooklyn teenager Miles Morales, who gains extraordinary powers after being bitten by a radioactive spider. As he learns to navigate his new abilities, he meets other Spider-People and faces the formidable villain known as Kingpin, who threatens to open portals to alternate universes.
Directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman, the film features an impressive voice cast, including Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker, and Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy. The film also features voices from Mahershala Ali, Lily Tomlin, and Nicolas Cage, showcasing a diverse range of characters from the Spider-Man universe.
Following the release of its sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, in 2023, production for the anticipated third installment, Beyond the Spider-Verse, is currently underway. After facing various creative challenges, it was confirmed in December 2024 that Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson are now directing the project. The release is currently slated for June 18, 2027.
Fans of the franchise can look forward to the theatrical rerelease of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, offering an opportunity to experience the film on the big screen once again. With its blend of innovative animation and engaging storytelling, the film continues to resonate with audiences around the world.
