Kelsey Grammer Seeks New Home for Frasier Revival After Cancellation
Kelsey Grammer is expressing his disappointment over the cancellation of the *Frasier* revival by Paramount+. Nearly a year after the show’s termination, Grammer, who reprised his iconic role as the titular psychotherapist, is still navigating the complexities of finding a new platform for the series. The revival launched in 2023, taking place approximately 20 years after the original series concluded, and followed Grammer’s character as he moved to Boston to reconnect with his son, Frederick.
The revival, developed by Chris Harris and Joe Cristalli, initially garnered a mixed response from critics but received a more favorable reception from audiences. Despite this encouraging viewer interest, Paramount+ opted to cancel the series after its second season, which continued to see a similar response from both critics and fans. Following the show’s cancellation in January 2025, Grammer has been actively searching for another network to bring the beloved character back to life.
In an interview with ScreenRant’s Ash Crossan, Grammer shared his frustrations regarding the revival’s fate. He reflected on the ongoing interactions he has with fans, noting that he still receives recognition for his character. He stated, “I still have a small voice that tells me there’s still a future for that part of Frasier’s life.” While he has ideas for reviving the series and even has “funding that’s waiting in the wings,” he pointed out that the rights to the show remain tightly held by Paramount+ and CBS.
Grammer voiced concerns that the studio’s reluctance to let go of the show’s rights may stem from a fear of allowing another network to potentially turn the series into a success. “They’re digging their heels in, saying, ‘We don’t want to let somebody else take it and turn it into a hit,'” he said. This hesitation from Paramount is puzzling to Grammer, particularly given the potential financial benefits for the company. “This is potentially another billion or two for Paramount,” he noted.
The *Frasier* revival’s cancellation reflects broader challenges within Paramount’s operations. The company is currently undergoing significant structural changes, including a recent merger with Skydance valued at approximately $8 billion. Additionally, Paramount is pursuing the acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, which has further complicated its focus on existing projects such as *Frasier*. Given these substantial corporate shifts, the revival’s return appears to be a low priority.
Despite the obstacles, Grammer remains hopeful about the show’s future. He highlighted that legacy sitcoms often find renewed success on different platforms, which could be the case for *Frasier*. With a year having passed since the show’s cancellation, the creative team has had ample time to reassess and refine their approach for any potential new episodes.
As the situation develops, Grammer’s determination to revive *Frasier* persists, reflecting both his passion for the character and a belief in the show’s enduring appeal. While the path forward remains uncertain, the actor’s commitment to exploring new opportunities for the series keeps the possibility of its return alive.
