Kaley Cuoco Discusses Balancing Family and New Show ‘Vanished’
Kaley Cuoco recently shared her thoughts on balancing family life and her latest acting role in the new series Vanished, which premiered on February 1, 2024. The show, available on MGM+, features Cuoco as Alice, who embarks on a romantic getaway to Paris with her boyfriend Tom, played by Sam Claflin. The trip takes an unexpected turn when Tom mysteriously disappears.
Cuoco expressed her initial hesitations about taking on the role, particularly due to her responsibilities as a mother. The actress, who has a two-year-old daughter named Matilda with fiancé Tom Pelphrey, reflected on how her priorities have shifted since becoming a parent. “Now that I have a kid, the decision making is very different and I never knew that would be a thing,” she told Us Weekly. The prospect of spending two months away from home raised concerns for Cuoco, who admitted, “It almost felt indulgent and selfish.”
Fortunately, Cuoco received strong support from her partner. “Luckily, I have an amazing partner who kept saying, ‘You got to go do this,’” she explained. This encouragement helped her overcome her reservations. Cuoco described her feelings of worry about leaving her family behind, noting that she initially struggled with the idea of pursuing work that would take her far from home.
Upon arriving in France, Cuoco found reassurance in her family’s well-being, stating, “The minute I got there, I called home and I knew the family was good.” This allowed her to fully engage in her work and enjoy the experience. The filming locations in Paris and Marseille contributed to a vibrant atmosphere that Cuoco embraced wholeheartedly. “I just had the time of my life and it felt very freeing,” she recalled.
Cuoco also shared a humorous anecdote about her daughter’s reaction to her absence. “She didn’t give two s****. She’d call me and [it was like] I was bothering her,” Cuoco laughed. “You don’t want your kid wondering where you are. So I was sadder than my child was.”
The series Vanished combines elements of drama and comedy, a mix that Cuoco enjoys. “There’s a little bit of drama mixed with a little bit of comedy. I like that fine line because I feel like that’s true to life,” she remarked. Her passion for storytelling is evident, as she aims to create engaging content that entertains rather than transforms lives.
Looking ahead, Cuoco has plans for future projects, including a collaboration with the team behind the acclaimed series Hacks. She described the upcoming project, titled Kansas City Star, as a return to her roots in comedy. “I’m a comedy girl at heart. I just want to make people laugh,” she said.
As for future collaborations, Cuoco expressed a desire to work with Pelphrey, calling him her favorite actor. “We would love to find something special together. I obviously think he’s so brilliant for multiple reasons,” she said, emphasizing the importance of finding the right project for both of them.
With the release of Vanished and her ongoing commitments, Cuoco continues to navigate the delicate balance between her professional and personal life, all while bringing engaging stories to her audience.
