Gayle King Addresses CBS Mornings Speculation Amid Network Changes
In a recent appearance at the Golden Globes, Gayle King addressed growing speculation about her future with CBS Mornings. As the network navigates significant internal changes, King emphasized her focus on her current role, despite her contract nearing expiration in May 2026.
King Keeps Calm Amid Rumors
When approached on the red carpet and asked about her future at CBS, King maintained a composed demeanor. Speaking with Marc Malkin from Variety, she stated, “I’m certainly not going to make any announcement here… We will keep you posted.” This response, while polite, did little to quell the mounting curiosity surrounding her tenure.
The buzz surrounding King’s potential departure coincides with a period of transition for CBS News. Under the leadership of new editor-in-chief Bari Weiss, the network is undergoing a reshuffle, both behind the scenes and on-air. King, who has been a fixture on the morning show since its inception as CBS This Morning in January 2012, continues to serve as a stable presence during this tumultuous time.
Addressing the Drama
King has not shied away from addressing the rumors directly. During a December 2025 appearance on the talk show Sherri, she commented on the swirling speculation regarding her role, saying, “I’ve decided I’m going to stay out of the drama — and there is some drama. I’m just going to continue to do my job.”
She further noted that public narratives often diverge from the realities within the network. King explained that the messages circulating in the media do not always reflect the internal dynamics at CBS. “At times, I’ll read headlines about myself and immediately know they’re off the mark,” she remarked, as reported by USA Today.
As the conversation around her future continues, King’s steadfast approach demonstrates her commitment to her role and the program. With her contract set to conclude in less than three years, the entertainment industry will undoubtedly keep a close eye on developments regarding her next steps. For now, King remains focused on delivering the news rather than engaging with speculation.
