Cleveland’s Midnight Owl Brewery Closes, Celebrates Burns Night
In a notable shift within Cleveland’s craft beer scene, Midnight Owl Brewing Co. has announced its closure after approximately two and a half years of operation. Owners Joel Warger and Rosemary Mudry revealed this decision, citing various challenges that have made it untenable to continue. The brewery, located in the former Lucy’s Sweet Surrender on Chagrin Boulevard in Shaker Heights, will cease operations, marking the end of its local presence.
Alongside this closure, the vibrant scene continues with upcoming events. Market Garden Brewery is gearing up for its annual Burns Night celebration. This event, which honors the renowned Scottish poet Robert Burns, includes traditional elements such as haggis, poetry readings, beer, and Scotch. Burns Night takes place around January 25, the poet’s birthday, celebrating his legacy through food, drink, and toasts.
Angels on the Avenue Hosts Brewery Tour
Further enriching Cleveland’s craft beer offerings, Angels on the Avenue is set to host its annual brewery tour, with proceeds benefiting Holy Family Home and Hospice in Parma. This all-day event will transport participants to five different breweries, showcasing the local beer culture. The tour will start and end in Middleburg Heights, providing attendees with an opportunity to explore various craft breweries while supporting a charitable cause.
Such events and gatherings highlight the resilience and community spirit within the local food and drink scene, even as one establishment closes its doors. The combination of tradition and philanthropy continues to define Cleveland’s relationship with craft brewing.
As the community reflects on the closure of Midnight Owl Brewing Co., it also looks forward to celebrating its heritage at events like Burns Night and the brewery tour. The local craft beer landscape remains dynamic, adapting to challenges while promoting camaraderie and cultural appreciation through food and drink.
