Chicago Announces Exciting Lineup for 2026 Festival Season

The City of Chicago has unveiled the schedule for its highly anticipated 2026 festival season, featuring a vibrant array of events that celebrate the rich cultural diversity of the city. The announcement was made by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, alongside Mayor Brandon Johnson, who emphasized the significance of these gatherings in showcasing Chicago as a creative and welcoming community.

Chicago’s festival season will commence in May and run through October, offering residents and visitors an opportunity to engage in a variety of artistic and cultural experiences. The lineup includes over a dozen events, from music and dance to food festivals, ensuring there is something for everyone. Mayor Johnson stated, “Chicago’s festival season is a celebration of who we are as a city. We are creative, diverse, welcoming and full of life.”

Key Events in the 2026 Festival Season

The festival season will feature a wide range of events, kicking off with the Chicago Farmers Markets, which will operate citywide from May through October. Notable market openings include the Division Street Market on May 16 and the Daley Plaza Market on May 21.

On May 23, the Memorial Day Wreath-Laying Ceremony and Parade will take place at Daley Plaza, followed by a parade along State Street. The summer will heat up with the return of the Millennium Park Summer Workouts, running Saturdays from May 16 to September 5.

Musical highlights include the Chicago Blues Festival from June 4 to June 7 at the Ramova Theatre and Millennium Park, and the Millennium Park Summer Music Series, featuring nine concerts at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, starting on June 15 and continuing through August 6.

Food lovers can look forward to the Taste of Chicago, which will take over Grant Park from July 8 to July 12. Additionally, the Chicago Gospel Music Festival will take place at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion on July 24 and July 25, followed by the popular Chicago SummerDance events throughout July and August, featuring pop-up dance sessions across the city.

Other notable events include the Chicago Air and Water Show on August 15 and 16, the Chicago House Music Festival and Conference at the Chicago Cultural Center from August 27 to August 30, and the Chicago Jazz Festival from September 3 to September 6.

The festival season will culminate with several holiday events, including the annual City of Chicago Tree Lighting Ceremony on November 20 at Millennium Park and the Holiday Market from November 20 to November 22. The year will conclude with the New Year’s Eve Celebration on December 31.
