Central Lakes College Unveils Winter Arts Lineup with Six Events
The Central Lakes College Performing Arts Center (CLCPAC) has announced an exciting lineup of six events scheduled for January and February 2024. This winter season promises a diverse range of performing arts and cultural engagement activities, including theatre, live music, and community initiatives at its Brainerd campus.
One of the highlights is a staged reading of Martin McDonagh‘s acclaimed play, “The Pillowman,” on January 23 at 19:00. Directed by Rebecca Timmins, the performance features local actors such as Joey Yow and Patrick Spradlin. This compelling adaptation, known for its sharp dialogue and dark humor, is free to attend, though registration through the CLCPAC website is recommended. The play is intended for audiences aged 18 and over due to its mature themes.
Following this, from January 26 to 28, the CLCPAC will host ConnectEffect, a community conversation series led by two-time Emmy-nominated director Riaz Patel. Taking place at noon and 17:00 each day, this initiative aims to foster intergenerational connections and empathy among participants, providing valuable insights on building relationships within the community.
On January 31 at 15:00, families can enjoy a performance by the Grammy-winning duo, The Okee Dokee Brothers, at the Gichi-ziibi Center for the Arts. Their folk music, which has been praised by NPR and PBS KIDS, celebrates themes of friendship and adventure, making it an enjoyable experience for both children and adults.
The following month, on February 5 at 12:00, Cultural Thursday will feature a presentation titled “Portugal: Exploring the World with New Eyes.” Speaker Jan Kurtz will share her experiences from Portugal, delving into the country’s history, cuisine, and travel insights. This event is part of the CLCPAC’s monthly cultural literacy series and is free to the public.
From February 12 to 15, audiences can enjoy Sandy Rustin’s comedic play, “The Cottage.” Directed by Amy Borash and featuring local talent such as Travis Chaput and Rachael Kline, this fast-paced farce reimagines the comedic style of Noël Coward, filled with humor and unexpected twists.
The winter series culminates on February 19 at 19:00 with a performance by the Ragamala Dance Company. This mother-daughter-led Bharatanatyam troupe, founded by Ranee and Aparna Ramaswamy, is renowned for its innovative storytelling through dance and has garnered acclaim on stages worldwide.
Tickets for these events can be purchased at the CLCPAC Box Office, which operates from 11:00 to 14:00, Tuesday through Thursday. They can also be reserved by calling 218-855-8199 or visiting the official website at www.clcperformingarts.com.
This winter season at the Central Lakes College Performing Arts Center promises to engage and inspire the community through a rich array of cultural experiences.
