Amy Poehler Shares Heated In-Flight Altercation on Podcast
In a recent episode of her podcast, “Good Hang,” actress Amy Poehler recounted an unexpected altercation that took place during a flight several years ago. This revelation came as part of a conversation with her “Mean Girls” co-star Ana Gasteyer, marking a memorable moment that resonated with fans.
The incident unfolded during a flight in first class, where both actresses found themselves in a tense exchange with a fellow passenger. While reminiscing about their experiences filming the iconic 2004 movie, Gasteyer brought up a flight they shared, specifically highlighting a confrontation Poehler had with a male passenger. “You got into a fight with a guy. Baby Frances was on the plane with us, do you remember that?” Gasteyer recalled, referencing her daughter, who is now 23 years old.
Poehler, taken aback by the memory, responded, “And I still got into a fight with the guy with the baby around?” Gasteyer humorously noted that the man was upset about Poehler’s language. “I hope so,” she joked, “because the guy got mad that you were swearing in front of the baby.”
Poehler elaborated on the incident, stating, “What happened was a guy — a first-class guy, which we were in first class too — was like, ‘Excuse me, I’m trying to [relax]. You’re being too loud.’” She did not take kindly to the complaint, admitting, “My Boston came out, let’s just say that.” While she did not reveal the exact words exchanged, it was clear that her irritation led to a colorful response, much to Gasteyer’s amusement, who described the argument as “the best thing I’ve ever seen.”
This anecdote was just one of many from Poehler’s podcast, which recently garnered significant recognition by winning the 2026 Golden Globe for Best Podcast. In her acceptance speech, Poehler expressed gratitude for the opportunity to create content that fosters connection and joy in a challenging world. “This show is an attempt to try to make a very rough and unkind world filled with a little bit more love and laughter,” she said.
Poehler also took the opportunity to thank her boyfriend, Joel Lovell, during the ceremony. Lovell, who has a notable background in media, previously served as deputy editor of The New York Times Magazine before transitioning to podcasting. The couple has been together for several years, following Poehler’s previous marriage to actor Will Arnett, with whom she shares two children.
As Poehler continues to share stories from her life and career, her candidness and humor resonate with audiences, making “Good Hang” a standout in the evolving podcast landscape.
