Aidy Bryant Makes Surprise Return to SNL for Bowen Yang’s Send-Off
Aidy Bryant made a surprise return to Saturday Night Live on October 14, 2023, marking her first appearance since departing the iconic show in May 2022. Bryant returned to Studio 8H to celebrate her colleague Bowen Yang, who is transitioning to a new chapter in his career. The two revived their beloved “Trend Forecasters” segment during the Weekend Update, bringing a nostalgic touch to the evening.
During the segment, Bryant and Yang humorously revealed that they had been sourcing trends from a “very huge, sweaty, rock hard computer.” Among the trends they discussed was the potential for a new installment in the popular film franchise, Rush Hour 4. Yang quipped, “Thanks Trump,” eliciting laughter from the audience and co-anchor Michael Che.
Bryant’s tenure on SNL spanned from Season 38 to Season 47, during which she made a significant impact with her sketches and characters. The Trend Forecasters segment was a fan favorite, frequently appearing in 2022. After Bryant’s departure, Yang expressed his reluctance to continue the bit without her, emphasizing her lasting influence on the show.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Yang stated, “Honestly, I would never dream of doing it without Aidy. I feel like the next time we do it is when Aidy comes back to host.” He shared his hope for her return, adding, “I feel like she is just going to be everyone’s boss at some point in show business. So, I feel like she’ll have her moment to come back.”
The episode served as a poignant reminder of the camaraderie and creativity that has defined SNL over the years. Fans of the show celebrated Bryant’s return and Yang’s farewell, marking the occasion as a significant moment in the show’s ongoing legacy.
As Bryant continues to pursue her career beyond SNL, her return to the studio highlights the lasting bonds formed within the cast and the shared experiences that resonate with audiences. The future of both performers promises to be exciting, with many eager to see what they will do next.
