Robots & Pencils Launch Rewired: Redefining Higher Education
On October 21, 2025, at the Agentic AI and the Student Experience Summit hosted by Arizona State University, Robots & Pencils unveiled a pioneering initiative titled Rewired: The New AI Architecture of Higher Education. This three-part thought leadership series challenges institutions to rethink their approach to learning in the context of rapidly advancing artificial intelligence.
As the landscape of education shifts due to AI’s influence on areas such as admissions, advising, research, and student retention, Robots & Pencils aims to provide a comprehensive vision for evolving into what they term “intelligent universities.” The series emphasizes a transition from mere digital transformation to a deeper level of institutional intelligence, advocating for systems that actively learn and adapt alongside students.
Transforming Learning Experiences
Kristina Gralak, Client Strategy Analyst at Robots & Pencils and author of the Rewired series, articulated the urgency of adapting to these changes. “The next era of higher education will be defined by who learns fastest,” Gralak stated. She suggested that agentic AI is redefining the concept of student-centered education. According to her, successful universities will need to rewire their infrastructures to foster personalized experiences, validate students’ skills, and connect learning opportunities to lifelong career paths.
Jeff Kirk, Executive Vice President of Applied AI at Robots & Pencils, emphasized that enhancing the student experience begins with foundational systems. “Every institution seeks to enhance the student experience, yet few realize that progress begins with the invisible systems: the data, cloud, and AI engines that make intelligence possible,” he explained. This perspective underscores the importance of integrating strategy with practical implementation to drive meaningful change.
Call to Action for Educational Leaders
The Rewired series highlights pressing challenges in higher education, advocating for the adoption of intelligent systems that can evolve with student needs. It discusses innovations such as intelligent tutoring systems and AI-powered credential networks. By showcasing how pioneering universities can transform experimentation into institutional evolution, the series serves as a clarion call for educational leaders.
Robots & Pencils encourages institutions to embrace an AI-driven future that supports lifelong learners. The vision laid out in Rewired is not merely aspirational; it is a roadmap for universities aiming to think, adapt, and evolve as dynamically as the students they serve.
