Firehouse Subs Shutters Only Annapolis Location in Shopping Center

Firehouse Subs has officially closed its only location in Annapolis, located within the Festival at Riva shopping center. This decision marks a significant change for the restaurant, which was part of the larger portfolio owned by Restaurant Brands International, the parent company of notable fast-food chains including Tim Hortons, Burger King, and Popeyes. Currently, both Burger King and Popeyes continue to operate in Annapolis.

In a statement regarding the closure, Restaurant Brands International indicated, “While the Firehouse Subs restaurant at Festival At Riva has closed its doors, we look forward to continuing to serve guests our delicious hot subs at the nearby Severna Plaza and Waugh Chapel Firehouse Subs restaurants.” The company did not provide any further details on the reasons behind this closure.

During a visit to the location on Wednesday, it was evident that the restaurant had emptied out, with kitchen equipment and furniture removed. A simple notice on the door read “closed.” The restaurant still appears on the Festival at Riva’s website, suggesting it has not yet been updated to reflect the closure.

The closing of Firehouse Subs is part of a broader trend within the shopping center, which also witnessed the recent shutdown of Party City after the company declared bankruptcy.

Firehouse Subs had previously engaged with the local community, notably donating two protective vests to the Annapolis Police Department in 2019 through its foundation. The community impact of such donations underscores the restaurant’s involvement beyond just serving food, marking a relationship with local law enforcement.

While the closure is a disappointment for fans of the sandwich chain, nearby locations in Severna Plaza and Waugh Chapel will continue to serve customers. As the fast-food landscape evolves, the future of dining options in Annapolis remains to be seen.
