Beloved Educator Kathleen Thompson Passes Away at 81

Kathleen (Snay) Thompson, an esteemed educator from Millers Falls Road, passed away on November 9, 2025, at the Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility in Greenfield, Massachusetts. She was 81 years old and left behind a legacy of dedication to teaching and family.

Born on April 13, 1944, in Worcester, Massachusetts, Kathleen was the daughter of Leo and Donna (Wood) Snay. She attended Leicester High School and later enrolled at Worcester State College, where she earned a degree in teaching. Her commitment to education led her back to Worcester State for a Master’s degree in Education, which she completed while working full-time and raising two children, Cheryl and Joseph.

A Passion for Teaching

Kathleen Thompson dedicated 34 years to teaching first graders at Leicester Primary School, retiring in 2002. Her colleagues often remarked on the preparedness of her students for their transition to second grade, a testament to her exceptional teaching methods. She spent countless hours grading assignments, designing engaging classroom displays, and ensuring that each child felt valued and heard.

Her passion for teaching was matched only by her commitment to her family. Kathleen was a devoted mother, attending numerous school events and sports activities to support her children. Once they became parents, she embraced her role as a loving grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl A. Thompson, and her wife, Wendy, of Turners Falls; a son, Joseph E. Thompson, of Woodstock, Connecticut; and four cherished grandchildren.

A Life Well-Lived

Kathleen found joy in various pursuits, including theater productions and crossword puzzles. She cherished her time with her husband, Edward J. Thompson, who passed away in 2010. For the last decade of his life, she provided loving care for him at home, a commitment that deeply impacted her after his passing.

In addition to her children and grandchildren, Kathleen is survived by her sister, Nancy Conlon, and brother, Wayne Snay, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Melissa Booth Thompson, in 2014.

Calling hours for Kathleen Thompson will be held on November 25, 2025, from 17:30 to 19:30 at the Kostanski Funeral Home, located at 1 Kostanski Square in Turners Falls.
