On November 8, 2025, Gino Porzio, a cherished member of the Ukiah community, passed away peacefully at the age of 82. Born on October 14, 1943, in Ukiah, California, Gino dedicated his life to his family, friends, and the many projects that showcased his resourcefulness and determination.

A Life of Family and Community

Gino was raised in Ukiah by his father, Luigi Porzio (1891-1956), and his mother, Gina Porzio (1899-1987), alongside his siblings, including his sister, Rosalie Montgomery (1921-1997), and brother, Frank Porzio. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Frances “Diane” Porzio, who passed away on July 20, 2020. Gino is survived by their four sons: Ryan, Kevin, Scott, and Shane.

Growing up in Ukiah, Gino cultivated a deep love for his hometown. His early years were marked by work at the Palace Hotel and joyful rides on his Vespa. He often traveled to visit Diane while she was studying at the Rio Lindo Adventist Academy, a testament to his unwavering devotion. Their marriage in July 1973 marked the beginning of a lifelong partnership built on love and mutual support.

A Legacy of Love and Dedication

Gino’s career as an electrician with B&F Electric allowed him to provide for his family, which he cherished above all else. They lived in a home with a spacious backyard, where Gino instilled values of perseverance and kindness in his sons. Every year, he took them camping, cheered them on at numerous sports events, and even coached baseball for several seasons.

In 1990, Gino embarked on a noteworthy project by purchasing the historic Bittenbender House for just one dollar. Demonstrating remarkable ambition, he moved the structure to 211 South Spring Street, reviving a piece of local history with his own hands. This venture showcased his ingenuity and commitment to preserving the community’s heritage.

Beyond his accomplishments, Gino was known for his quiet strength, loyalty, and gentle humor. He had a special bond with his dogs, who were an integral part of his life. Gino’s legacy continues through the lives of his children and the memories they hold dear. He will be remembered for his kindness, craftsmanship, and the love he shared so freely.

A service to honor Gino Porzio will take place at the Empire Mortuary on November 22, 2025, from 13:00 to 16:00. The community is invited to come together to celebrate a life well-lived and to pay tribute to a man who will be deeply missed.

As family and friends gather to remember Gino, they reflect on a life filled with love and adventure. His spirit will forever be cherished, as he is reunited with Diane and remembered fondly by all who knew him.
