Richard Louis “Dick” Carle, Beloved Community Member, Dies at 90
Richard Louis “Dick” Carle, a cherished figure in the Oakdale, Minnesota community, passed away on November 1, 2025, at the age of 90. Surrounded by his loving family, Dick’s passing marks the end of a life dedicated to service, family, and friendship.
Born on September 28, 1935, in St. Paul, Minnesota, Dick was the third of eight siblings in the Carle family. He graduated from Washington High School and served in the U.S. Army for two years, where he was stationed in Alaska and played on the Army hockey team. His passion for sports remained a significant part of his life, influencing his relationships and community engagement.
In 1964, Dick met his future wife, Sharon, and they soon married. The couple settled in Oakdale, where they raised three daughters. Their family grew to include five grandsons, two granddaughters, and three great-granddaughters. Dick relished his role as a grandfather, embodying a spirit of warmth and generosity that endeared him to all who knew him.
Throughout his life, Dick was known for his vibrant personality and willingness to help others. He worked for the Public Works Department in West St. Paul until his retirement. His dedication extended beyond his job; he volunteered with the Lions Club and spent over 20 years assisting at Cafesjian’s Carousel in Como Park. Additionally, he was a committed member of Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church, where his active participation reflected his deep faith and community spirit.
Dick’s legacy includes not only his family but also the many lives he touched during his lifetime. He is preceded in death by his son, Steven Richard, and several family members, including his parents, Leo and Lillian Carle, and his sister, Judith Butler. His survival extends to his wife, Sharon, daughters Shari (Ted) Luchsinger, Dawn (David) Lindgren, and Jeannine (Dominic) Berntson, along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and siblings.
The family expresses profound gratitude to the St. Croix Hospice and Bright Star care teams for their compassionate support during Dick’s final days. A funeral service will be held at Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church, located at 1669 Arcade Street, St. Paul, MN 55106, on November 11 at 11:00 AM, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Following the service, a luncheon will be held, culminating in interment at 1:30 PM at Union Cemetery in Maplewood, Minnesota. Visitation prior to the funeral is scheduled for November 10 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home, located at 1401 Arcade Street, St. Paul, MN.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial contributions in honor of Dick Carle, reflecting the love and support he shared with his community throughout his life.
