“Mystery Unfolds: ‘Clue’ Comes to Syracuse’s Landmark Theatre”
The Landmark Theatre in Syracuse is set to host the theatrical production of “Clue,” running from October 28 to November 1. This engaging adaptation, inspired by the classic Hasbro board game and the 1985 film, invites audiences to join six enigmatic dinner guests as they unravel the mystery surrounding the murder of the blackmailing host, Mr. Boddy. Ticket prices start at $43 and are available for purchase online.
The play offers a unique blend of humor and suspense, providing an interactive experience that encourages audience participation. As in the game, it will be up to both the characters and the theatergoers to determine the murderer, the crime scene, and the weapon used in the plot. The production promises surprises that differentiate it from the film adaptation, enhancing its appeal for both avid fans and newcomers alike.
TJ Lamando, who takes on the role of Mr. Green, emphasizes the freshness of this version. “There are a lot of surprises that are not in the movie, and a lot of things that tie specifically to the board game that maybe the movie doesn’t do,” Lamando stated. His passion for the story began with his father, who introduced him to the 1985 movie featuring a star-studded cast including Tim Curry and Lesley Ann Warren.
In preparing for his role, Lamando focuses on Mr. Green as a “timid, anxious person, a rule follower.” He notes that placing a nervous character in a murder mystery creates compelling tension. “This sort of bubbling tension that comes with anxiety or nerves is palpable, especially in a high-stakes environment like this,” he explained.
The ensemble cast contributes to the play’s dynamic atmosphere, fostering interactions that heighten the comedic and suspenseful elements of the story. Lamando remarked on the engaging interplay among characters, stating, “The other characters have a lot of fun making Mr. Green even more nervous than he already is.”
The production of “Clue” appeals to a broad audience, making it a family-friendly option that promotes intergenerational enjoyment. Lamando highlights its universal theme, saying, “I think everybody loves a whodunit, and it’s sort of undeniable when you get to watch it.”
In conjunction with the opening of this season’s M&T Bank Broadway series, a scavenger hunt is taking place in downtown Syracuse. Participants can scan QR codes at local businesses to gather clues, with the chance to win two tickets to the opening night of “Clue,” a basket of candy, and a Clue board game. This exciting scavenger hunt concludes on October 26.
As the anticipation builds for the theatrical run, “Clue” promises to deliver a captivating experience for audiences by combining engaging storytelling with an interactive format.
