Massullo’s Cleaners Celebrates 100 Years with Centurion Induction

Massullo’s Cleaners & Tailors, a cherished establishment in Morgantown, West Virginia, has officially marked its 100th anniversary by being inducted into the WV Centurion Chamber of Commerce. The ceremony took place on Friday at their High Street location, with West Virginia Secretary of State Kris Warner presiding over the event.

Warner, who has deep roots in the community, shared his personal connection to the business. As a former Morgantown resident, he recounted his family’s 30-plus years as loyal customers. “They took great care of me,” he remarked, reflecting on the service his children received when they brought their uniforms to Massullo’s as members of the Civil Air Patrol and U.S. Air Force. Warner praised the staff for their attentiveness and skill in tailoring, stating, “They knew precisely where the badges and insignia belonged without being told.”

The history of Massullo’s began when Domenico Massullo, an Italian immigrant, and his wife, Raphael, opened Massullo’s Tailoring on Pleasant Street in 1925. Today, the business is owned by their granddaughter, Linda Cerone, who has continued the family legacy. Cerone co-owned the business with her late husband, Tony Cerone, and her brother, Carl Massullo Jr. After their passing, she became the sole owner. “If it wasn’t for my crew, I couldn’t have done this myself,” Cerone expressed, emphasizing the support she received from her team.

The Centurion program, initiated by the Secretary of State’s office in 2019, aims to honor businesses that have been in continuous operation for a century or more. Warner noted that this initiative is unique in the United States. “West Virginia Centurions are businesses that have withstood the test of time, the test of tragedy, and the numerous challenges that come with changes in government policies and advances in technology,” he stated. He highlighted how businesses like Massullo’s have not only survived but thrived through significant historical events, including world wars, economic downturns, and even pandemics.

To celebrate this milestone, Massullo’s provided a variety of food and treats for attendees. Warner and Cerone participated in cutting a commemorative cake, symbolizing the significance of the occasion. As part of the ceremony, Warner presented Massullo’s with two Centurion plaques—one for the High Street location and another for their Suncrest Towne Centre pickup and drop-off site.

The induction of Massullo’s Cleaners & Tailors into the Centurion Chamber of Commerce is a testament to its enduring presence in the community and the family’s commitment to quality service over the past century.
