BREAKING: EU Ambassador to the U.S., Jovita Neliupšienė, urges stronger ties between the European Union and Colorado during her visit to Boulder on October 3, 2023. With $24.9 billion invested in the state, she emphasized the importance of continuing to strengthen this critical relationship.

During her first visit to Boulder, Neliupšienė spoke at the University of Colorado Boulder, sharing insights about the EU’s history and addressing key political issues. She stated, “The relations are very close and very diverse with Colorado, and I think that’s important to continue.”

The ambassador also met with Boulder Mayor Aaron Brockett to discuss the city’s participation in the EU Cities Gateway program. This initiative aims to foster collaboration among cities in the U.S., Canada, and the EU, helping them share best practices for urban management. “I’m really, really glad that Boulder decided to join the project,” Neliupšienė said.

Neliupšienė’s visit comes just after she spoke at the University of Wyoming, highlighting her commitment to engaging with local communities. She explained that the significant EU investment has created tens of thousands of jobs across Colorado, generating nearly $1 billion in annual trade.

“It’s essential for any community, Boulder and others in Colorado, to ensure we have less friction and fewer problems in trade and economic relations,” she affirmed. The ambassador also touched on the recent U.S.-EU trade deal, which was finalized in August and caps tariffs at 15% for most EU exports, aiming to provide stability in trade flows.

Neliupšienė, who became the EU ambassador on January 1, 2024, previously held various positions in her home country of Lithuania, including vice minister of foreign affairs. She reinforced the EU’s commitment to democracy and human rights, stating, “The European Union is built on the values of democracy, rule of law, and human rights, and we will continue to champion them.”

The ambassador’s visit underscores the EU’s focus on enhancing economic ties with Colorado while promoting shared values. As she concluded her remarks, she encouraged students and community members to remain active and engaged in the matter.

Stay tuned for updates on how these initiatives will impact Boulder and the broader Colorado community.
