Urgent Recall: Salmonella Risk Prompts Egg Brands to Withdraw
UPDATE: Two major egg brands have been urgently recalled due to possible salmonella contamination, raising health concerns across the nation. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has confirmed that the brands affected are Kenz Henz and Black Sheep Company, both traced back to a facility in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas.
This significant recall follows alarming findings where FDA inspectors discovered 40 samples positive for seven different strains of salmonella at the Black Sheep Egg Company facility. Salmonella can cause serious gastrointestinal issues, including diarrhea and stomach cramps, and may lead to more severe symptoms in vulnerable groups such as young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
Authorities are stressing the urgency of this recall, as affected eggs may still be present in consumers’ homes. The FDA warns that the expiration dates on these egg cartons are recent or may not have passed yet, increasing the risk of consumption. While no illnesses have been reported related to the recall, the agency urges consumers to check their refrigerators immediately.
The specific cartons being recalled include:
– Kenz Henz 12-count packages of “Grade AA Large Pasture Raised” eggs, marked with UPC code 86949400030 and Julian dates of 241 (August 30) to 244 (September 2) and 246 (September 4) to 247 (September 5), with best by dates of 10/11 to 10/14 and 10/16 to 10/17.
– Black Sheep Company 12- and 18-count cartons of “Free Range Large Grade A Brown Eggs” with best by dates ranging from 8/22/2025 through 10/31/2025. The UPC codes for these are 860010568507 and 860010568538.
As this situation develops, the FDA will continue to monitor and update the public regarding any additional brands that may be added to the recall. Consumers are encouraged to dispose of any affected eggs or return them to retailers for a full refund.
Stay informed and share this urgent news to ensure the safety of your loved ones. The potential health risks associated with consuming contaminated eggs underscore the importance of vigilance during this recall. Check your homes now!
