United Airlines Jet Windscreen Cracks Midair at 36,000 Feet
URGENT UPDATE: A United Airlines Boeing 737 Max experienced a shocking incident midair, with its windscreen cracking at 36,000 feet, reportedly injuring the captain. The flight, Flight 1093, took off from Denver on October 17, 2025, destined for Los Angeles. Just 37 minutes into the journey, near Moab, Utah, the aircraft unexpectedly began to descend.
Witnesses and data from Flightradar24 indicate that after a sudden drop, the plane made a sharp turn north and diverted to Salt Lake City. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has confirmed it is investigating the incident, stating they are collecting radar, weather, and flight recorder data. The damaged windscreen is being sent to their labs for analysis.
Images circulated on social media show glass in the cockpit and the captain’s bloodied forearm, raising concerns about the nature of the incident. Reports suggest possible scorch marks on the aircraft, hinting that it may have been struck by space debris or a small meteorite, although these claims have yet to be verified.
In a statement to Business Insider, United Airlines confirmed the damage to the windscreen and reassured that the plane landed safely. Passengers were transferred to another aircraft, which ultimately arrived in Los Angeles at 1:12 PM PT, approximately five and a half hours late. The original plane has since been redirected to Chicago Rockford Airport for maintenance.
The incident raises significant safety questions and highlights the unpredictable dangers of flying at high altitudes. As investigations continue, officials are focused on determining the precise cause of the windscreen failure and ensuring the safety of future flights.
