Urgent Protests Surge Across Bay Area Against Trump’s Actions
UPDATE: Millions of Americans are mobilizing for a significant No Kings Day protest today, July 15, 2023, across the Bay Area and nationwide. These demonstrations come as concerns escalate over President Donald Trump‘s potential deployment of the National Guard to cities, including San Francisco.
URGENT: In response to Trump’s controversial remarks about using federal troops, California Governor Gavin Newsom has spoken out, condemning the president’s actions as “grossly illegal” and “immoral.” At a press conference, Newsom stated, “His latest assertion that he was going to come to San Francisco—on what basis? There’s no existing protest in a federal building. This is just delusional.”
Today, three major gatherings are scheduled in San Francisco, with organizers expecting thousands of participants. Demonstrators aim to peacefully resist the White House’s actions, highlighting a growing unrest among citizens regarding federal overreach.
In a stark response, House Speaker Mike Johnson labeled the protests as “anti-American,” referring to them as the “hate America rally.” However, leaders of the protests, including Dianne McClure, VP of National Nurses United, argue that these actions reflect a fundamental belief in democracy: “We do not believe in one person or one group of people controlling our country.”
While the protests in San Francisco are not directly linked to Trump’s military assertions, the SFPD is prepared. A spokesperson confirmed that they will facilitate the right to protest while ensuring public safety.
In parallel, other states, including Texas, are seeing deployments of the National Guard in response to protests. The nationwide mobilization signifies a tense atmosphere as citizens express their discontent with federal policies.
DETAILS: The Bay Area protests will feature street closures today. From 1:15 PM to 2:00 PM, closures will include:
– Market from Beale to Steuart
– Steuart from Market to Howard
– Spear from Market to Folsom
– Main from Market to Howard
Further closures are set from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Market from Eighth to Steuart, Hyde from McAllister to Market, and Grove from Market to Van Ness.
As the protests unfold, citizens nationwide are encouraged to stay informed and engaged. For a complete list of planned protests, visit the No Kings website. The events today are not just a reflection of political sentiments but a vital exercise of the democratic right to assemble and voice concerns.
