UPDATE: A groundbreaking partnership between UC San Diego Health and GE HealthCare has just been announced, aiming to revolutionize patient care through advanced imaging technologies. This urgent initiative is set to enhance the quality and timeliness of medical services for patients across the San Diego region.

Officials confirmed that the collaboration will introduce cutting-edge imaging systems—including X-ray, ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), positron emission tomography (PET), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)—integrated with artificial intelligence (AI) tools. “Each patient’s unique health journey can be propelled by leading-edge technologies,” stated Patty Maysent, CEO of UC San Diego Health, emphasizing the importance of rapid diagnosis and streamlined care.

This initiative means patients will receive faster access to critical diagnostic services, significantly reducing wait times for results. “When a patient is undergoing screening for a life-threatening disease, they want to know the results as quickly as possible,” explained Christine Chung, MD, a radiologist at UC San Diego Health. “Having access to state-of-the-art equipment leads to an overall better experience for doctors and their patients.”

The integration of these advanced systems is expected to enable more accurate diagnoses and personalized treatment plans, especially for diseases like cancer. The collaboration will also implement pioneering theranostics, combining diagnostics and therapeutics for a precise approach to treatment.

“This strategic alliance allows us to take important steps toward delivering better results for the patients who rely on us,” said Brendan Kremer, Chief Operating Officer at UC San Diego Health. The standardization of innovative technology across facilities will set new benchmarks for academic medical centers and expand care services throughout the region.

UC San Diego Health, recognized as the best hospital system in San Diego for 2025-26 by U.S. News & World Report, operates three hospitals, including Hillcrest Medical Center and Jacobs Medical Center. The health system is committed to delivering outstanding patient care and advancing healthcare through community engagement and research.

Patients and healthcare professionals alike can expect to see these transformative technologies rolled out across the health system soon. For ongoing updates on this developing story, visit health.ucsd.edu and follow UC San Diego Health on social media platforms.
