ASU Hosts Urgent Sober-Safe Soul Food Brunch for Awareness
UPDATE: Albany State University (ASU) is making headlines today as it hosts its annual Sober-Safe Soul Food Brunch on October 14, 2023, aimed at raising critical awareness around substance abuse. The event, organized by ASU’s Student Health Services, is designed to promote healthy lifestyles and provide resources for students and the community.
The brunch, taking place in the university’s student center, is set to begin at 11:00 AM and will feature a variety of soul food dishes. Attendees can expect not only delicious meals but also vital information on the dangers of substance abuse and how to seek help. This initiative comes in response to growing concerns about the impact of substance misuse among college students.
“We want to foster an environment where students can enjoy themselves without the pressure of substance use,” said Reginald Christian, one of the event organizers. “Our goal is to educate and empower our community while providing a safe space for everyone.”
This year’s event includes guest speakers from local health organizations who will share insights and personal stories, highlighting the importance of awareness and prevention. Students will also have the opportunity to engage in interactive activities focused on mental health and wellness.
The Sober-Safe Soul Food Brunch is part of ASU’s ongoing commitment to support student health and well-being, especially as substance abuse rates continue to rise among young adults. With approximately 300 students expected to attend, this event is not just a meal; it’s a movement towards healthier choices.
As the brunch unfolds, ASU encourages all community members to participate in the conversation about substance abuse and its effects. “We believe that every conversation can lead to change,” Christian added. “This brunch is just the beginning.”
The event is open to the public, and organizers hope to see a diverse turnout, emphasizing that the fight against substance abuse is a community effort. For those unable to attend, ASU will provide resources online, ensuring that vital information reaches as many people as possible.
Next Steps: ASU is planning to host additional workshops and seminars throughout the semester to continue this vital dialogue. Stay tuned for updates on future events that further promote health and safety on campus.
