USC Receiver Ja’Kobi Lane Shines at NFL Scouting Combine
USC Trojans receiver Ja’Kobi Lane made a significant impact at the NFL Scouting Combine held on March 2, 2025, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Lane showcased his athleticism and skills in front of representatives from all 32 NFL teams, reinforcing his status as a promising prospect ahead of the upcoming draft.
Standing at 6 feet 4 inches and weighing 200 pounds, Lane also measured a wingspan of 32 5/8 inches and hands measuring 10 1/2 inches. His performance included a 40-yard dash time of 4.47 seconds, a vertical jump reaching 40 inches, and a broad jump of 10 feet 9 inches. These metrics are likely to enhance his visibility among scouts as the draft approaches.
Impressive Skills on Display
During the combine, Lane’s agility and technique were evident as he navigated the gauntlet drill, hitting a maximum speed of 19.29 miles per hour, ranking him sixth among receivers. His ability to make a diving catch along the sideline drew enthusiastic reactions from spectators and broadcasters alike, further demonstrating his potential as a vertical threat.
Lane concluded his workout with a backflip celebration, a signature move he adopted during his games this past season. Although he opted not to participate in the three-cone drill and 20-yard shuttle, he plans to showcase those skills at USC’s Pro Day on March 12, 2025. Given his strong showing at the combine, it is unlikely he will attempt to improve his vertical or broad jump.
As one of many talented receivers in this year’s draft class, Lane’s performance in Indianapolis strengthens his case for being selected in the second day of the draft. Teams are actively scheduling visits with potential prospects, with each team allowed to bring in up to 30 players for evaluations.
Rising Star in College Football
Lane’s on-field performances have mirrored his impressive game tape, where he has become known for spectacular catches and a wide catch radius. Over the past two seasons, he has recorded 16 touchdowns, establishing himself as a formidable red zone target. His ability to box out defenders in scoring situations has made him a favorite target for quarterback Jayden Maiava.
Throughout his three seasons at USC, Lane has consistently evolved as a player. At just 21 years old, he has shown dedication to refining his skills, suggesting that his potential is far from fully realized. Lane is part of a legacy of exceptional receivers developed under USC’s receivers coach Dennis Simmons, joining the ranks of notable alumni like Michael Crabtree, CeeDee Lamb, and Marquise Brown.
As the NFL draft approaches, Lane’s standout performance at the combine may prove pivotal in shaping his professional career. His impressive metrics, combined with his game experience, position him as a player to watch in the coming months.
